Massachusetts beach brawl
Police say more than 100 people were involved in a fight near the band stand on Revere Beach, Boston’s WFXT reports.
According to NECN:
The fight broke out near the bandstand on Revere Beach soon before 6:15 p.m. when two girls or women began fighting, Mayor Dan Rizzo said. Their boyfriends joined in, and then their boyfriends’ friends, and it kept growing from there, he said.
State Police Lt. Dan Richard says those involved in the fight were “pushing and shoving and throwing bottles.” He says the bottles were likely plastic soda bottles.
One witness told the WHDH that a girl involved in the fight punched a police officer in the face.
“It just kept building and building and more people getting upset about their friends being taken into custody,” another witness, Tyler Wade, told WHDH.
“Everybody started screaming people were throwing full cans of coke in the air trying to hit cop cars,” said another witness, according to a Twitter post from WZB reporter Nicole Jacobs.
At least 10 people were arrested in Sunday’s melee, which apparently started out as a fight between two women, officials said.
According to Yahoo, five girls under the age of 18, three boys under the age of 18 and one adult male were arrested. No names were released.
Troopers from three Massachusetts State Police barracks, as well as Revere, Boston and Lynn, were on the scene. Chelsea police were on hand to provide mutual aid.
“Any arrests from yesterday’s clash on Revere Beach will likely go to Chelsea District Court, with more serious cases being arraigned today and minor ones possibly being summonsed in,” said a spokesman from the Suffolk County’s district attorney’s office.
Police say between 100 and 200 people were at the scene.
No injuries were reported.
