According to media reports Wednesday, police in Newport News, Virginia, are investigating Melissa Kidd, 34.
The probe was launched in late March, when Woodside High School officials informed authorities that one of their teachers had allegedly shown students “obscene photographs,” reports the Smoking Gun.
Three students, ages 16 to 18, told investigators Kidd used her iPhone to show them “before and after photographs of her breast augmentation, which displayed her nude and exposed breasts.”
The alleged incident took place while Kidd was teaching a class inside the public school, reports the Huff Post.
“One juvenile victim additionally reported being shown nude photographs of Kidd’s breast and genital areas,” said A.J. Cupp, a detective with the Newport News Police Department’s special victims unit.
School officials placed Kidd on administrative leave without pay after they were appraised of the police investigation, and on April 17, she resigned from her position in the school’s career and technical education department, the Smoking Gun reports.
The court documents indicate that a search warrant in relation to the offense of “indecent liberties with a child by a person in a supervisory role” was obtained for Kidd’s phone. Kidd has not been charged with a crime at this time but the investigation is ongoing, according to the Huffington Post.
One mother whose child attends the school told local news channel WTKR that she hopes the accusations aren’t true.
“To hear something like that is really disturbing,” Angela Leslie said. “To me that’s pornographic, it’s not okay. It’s not okay. I hope it’s not true.”
