Dodger Stadium, July 96′, Padres in town, 6th inning 1-8 Padres leading. A group of liquored up Chicano were cursing and throwing trashes and bottles around. One of the bottle landed nearf Evander Holyfield who was sitting near the player dugout. Comes the 7th inning stretch, here come Evander, walking up the stair toward the group. He said there’s are kids and family watching the game and he think they should stop cussing and throwing trashes around. And if they don’t he’ll do something about it. Then he paused and said and it won’t be calling for security.
Reminds me of a time I went to a Seattle Mariners game back in the 90’s. I went with a friend of mine who had never been to a MLB game before. We were out in the left center bleachers and after warm ups my friend yelled to the center fielder to throw him the ball and he did as a souvenier. That same game the Seattle pitcher ended up throwing a no hitter. First in Mariners history. I told my friend to never go back to a game because it would never get better then this.
By the way the center fielder was Ken Griffey Jr. We tried to hang out after the game to see if he would sign it, but he got out of there.
I saw a singer/dancer silence a heckler in an instant. I was at the naval station in Subic Bay, Philippines in 1981 for the base’s annual Christmas event at the base’s O club. This drunk lieutenant, showing off for his peers no doubt, yelled something at the singer. The singer goes right up to him, spotlight following, puts the mic in his face and says “And sir, what is your name?” Talk about squirm city.
