Big Ben’s to Become Elizabeth Tower in Honor of the Queen

The most popular clock tower in the world, Big Ben, may be having a name change soon. In honor of the Queen’s diamond Jubilee it may be renamed to Elizabeth.

Conservative Tobias Ellwood’s said the clock symbolizes the queens 60 years of service to her country.

“Commemorating such an iconic landmark is indeed a truly exceptional tribute and I am grateful that a majority of MPs have now confirmed that the Queen deserves such an outstanding accolade,” he said.

To mark Queen Elizabeth’s 60th year on the throne, Prime Minister David Cameron has decided to sign a campaign for the name change along with 331 fellow lawmakers.

David Cameron was quoted saying to the Daily Mail, “It’s great news that so many MPs from across the House are backing what would be a fitting tribute to the queen. I hope it will now move ahead.”

Parliament will meet at the end of the month for the possible renaming of Big Ben.

On Saturday it will mark the beginning of Britain’s four day celebration for Queen Elizabeth II’s jubilee. It will also include a star-studded concert and a 1,000 boat river pageant. Let the festivities begin!

Big Ben is the nickname for the 13.5 tonne bell contained in the tower.
